Istanbul Airport to Istanbul City Center by Bus

Two bus companies handle the transportation from and to Istanbul International Airport, Havaist buses, and IETT public buses. However, neither of them offers a direct connection to the famous Sultanahmet, as IETT buses mostly serve less popular parts of the city, while Havaist buses no longer connect IST Airport to Sultanahmet. In any case, you can always take the cheap IETT H-1 or H-6 buses, but you will have to use other bus and metro lines further to reach your final destination. Additionally, your transit may involve a considerable amount of walking. On the other hand, the luxurious Havaist Buses iSt-1 will drop you off at the Aksaray Metro bus stop in about 90 minutes (depending on the traffic congestion). From that point, you’ll have to reach the tram stop (Yusufpaşa) and hop on the Tram Line T1 Kabataş–Bağcılar to Sultanahmet. Your tram journey should last around 9 minutes.

Havaist buses run around the clock with every 25-30-minute route, and their ticket costs 204₺ (5.42€ / 5.99$), while the tram fare is 20₺ (0.53€ / 0.59$). Thus, you’ll pay a total of 224₺ (5.96€ / 6.58$) fee for your ride from Istanbul Airport to the city center.

The bus station is located at the -2 airport level. In that area, you can also purchase an Istanbulkart, valid for all public transportation means, even for public toilets. Moreover, you can also pay using your credit card via the Havaist App or book your tickets in advance and simply download a QR code. Cash can be used only at the designated airport cash payment points.

Our Tip: You should bear in mind that traveling with heavy luggage on the Istanbul tram can be challenging, especially during rush hours.
